The PANTER Watch SEAMASTER series was born with a clear premise: to offer the aesthetics of a luxury diver with the proven reliability of Japanese engineering. At the heart of each piece beats the Seiko NH35A caliber, one of the most respected automatic movements in the world of accessible watchmaking. In this article, we break down its technical specifications and explain why we chose it for our Seamaster watches.
The models of the SEAMASTER PANTER series
Currently, the series has two references, both with the same caliber and case, differentiated by the dial:
| Reference | Dial | SKU | Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEAMASTER 007 Vintage | Black vintage effect | 12322 | 240 € |
| SEAMASTER Blue | Blue ocean effect | 12321 | 240 € |
The caliber: Seiko NH35A
The NH35A is an automatic movement manufactured by Seiko (produced by TMI — Time Module Inc.), derived from the legendary 7S35 caliber but with a fundamental improvement: it supports manual winding by turning the crown, in addition to automatic winding by wrist movement.
Complete technical specifications of the NH35A
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Movement type | Automatic (rotor winding + manual winding) |
| Number of jewels | 24 jewels |
| Oscillation frequency | 21,600 vibrations/hour (3 Hz) |
| Power reserve | Approx. 41 hours |
| Accuracy | +45 / -35 seconds per day (factory standard) |
| Time setting | Hacking (second hand stops when crown is pulled out) |
| Date | Yes, with window at 3 o'clock (quickset) |
| Caliber diameter | 28.4 mm |
| Caliber height | 5.35 mm |
| Rotor direction | Bi-directional |
| Manufacturer | TMI (Time Module Inc.) for Seiko |
What does each specification mean?
21,600 A/h — Oscillation frequency
The balance wheel of the NH35A oscillates 6 times per second (3 Hz). This translates into the second hand moving in 1/6 second increments, giving that characteristic smooth and continuous "tick". A higher frequency means greater potential precision, although the NH35A offers an optimal balance between precision and power reserve.
24 jewels
Synthetic jewels act as bearings at the points of greatest friction in the movement. 24 jewels is a generous number for a caliber in this range, which contributes to its longevity and smooth operation.
41 hours of power reserve
If you wear the watch daily, the rotor keeps it continuously wound. If you put it away, you will have almost two full days before it stops. When you pick it up again, simply turn the crown 20-30 times to manually wind it and set the time.
Hacking (second hand stop)
When the crown is pulled out to the time setting position, the second hand stops. This allows you to synchronize the watch to the exact second, a feature that not all affordable automatics include.
Quickset date
The date is set directly from the crown in the intermediate position, without having to turn the hours. Convenient and practical for daily use.

Why the NH35A and not another caliber?
At PANTER, we evaluated several movements before choosing the NH35A for our Seamaster series. These were the decisive factors:
- Proven reliability: millions of units in operation worldwide, with decades of proven history.
- Available spare parts: being a widespread caliber, any watchmaker can service and repair it.
- Manual winding: unlike the NH36 or 7S26, the NH35A allows the watch to be wound by hand, essential for a diver that may be stored for days.
- Compatibility with mods: the NH35A has a standard diameter that fits perfectly with 41 mm cases and high-quality aftermarket dials.
- Value for money: it offers mid-range features at a cost that allows us to keep the final price of the watch at 240 €.
Recommended maintenance
The NH35A is a robust movement, but like any precision mechanism, it requires basic care:
- Service every 3-5 years: cleaning, lubrication, and precision adjustment by a watchmaker.
- Avoid strong magnetic fields: speakers, refrigerator magnets, or medical equipment can affect the balance wheel.
- Do not overwind the crown: when winding manually, stop when you feel resistance (about 30-40 turns are sufficient).
- Store horizontally: if you don't use it for days, store it flat to preserve the lubrication of the movement.
