The Speedmaster is the most legendary watch in chronograph history. The only one certified by NASA for manned space missions, it accompanied the Apollo 11 astronauts in 1969. At PANTER Watch, we have reinterpreted its essence in two Seiko Mod versions — the classic and the Racing — with the same artisanal passion that defines our entire collection.
The technical basis: what the two share
Both PANTER Watch Speedmasters share top-tier technical specifications:
- Movement: Seiko TMI VK63 Meca-Quartz — hybrid chronograph with smooth seconds hand and quartz precision.
- Functions: Full chronograph with start, stop, and reset, functional sub-dials, and central seconds hand.
- Bezel: Tachymeter — allows calculating average speeds using the chronograph.
- Crystal: Anti-scratch sapphire — 9 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
- Case: 316L stainless steel, diameter approx. 40-42 mm.
- Bracelet: 316L stainless steel.
- Luminescence: High-visibility C3 Lume — excellent legibility in low-light conditions.
- Case back and crown: Screw-down — greater water resistance and protection.
- Water resistance: 3 ATM.
- Price: €210 for both models.
The two models
1. SPEEDMASTER — The classic Moonwatch The most faithful tribute to the original. "Moonwatch" design with functional sub-dials, tachymeter bezel, and timeless aesthetic that has graced wrists since 1957. A piece that combines the history of the world's most iconic chronograph with the reliability of the Japanese VK63 movement. For those who want a Speedmaster that tells a story every time they look at it.
2. SPEEDMASTER RACING — The spirit of the paddock The sportier, more contemporary version. Same Moonwatch DNA, but with an aesthetic geared towards the world of motorsport — the tachymeter bezel here makes full sense, originally designed for drivers to calculate speeds on the track. For those who want the Speedmaster's character with a more aggressive and modern touch.
The VK63 movement: the best of both worlds
The Seiko TMI VK63 is a meca-quartz caliber — a category that deserves explanation. Unlike a conventional quartz, the seconds hand does not advance in jumps but continuously and smoothly, exactly like a mechanical one. This gives the chronograph a completely different presence on the wrist, more lively and dynamic.
The precision is that of quartz (±10 seconds/month), but the visual experience is that of mechanical. And the chronograph functions with the same fluidity — start, stop, and reset with precisely responsive pushers.
Why is the Speedmaster still relevant?
Because it's the only chronograph design that has passed history's most demanding test: space. Its legibility, robustness, and tachymeter bezel make it a truly functional watch — not just a collector's item.
At PANTER Watch, we have brought it into the world of Seiko Mod so that any watch lover
Which one is yours?
