A well-maintained watch lasts decades. At PANTER Watch, we craft each piece with artisanal precision — and we want yours to be with you for as long as possible. This guide covers the essential care for each movement type in our collection.
What all PANTER Watch timepieces share
Regardless of the movement, there are a series of basic care guidelines that apply to the entire collection:
- Sapphire Crystal: Although it's virtually scratch-proof, avoid direct impacts against hard surfaces. A strong impact can crack it.
- 316L Steel Case and Bracelet: Clean regularly with a soft, slightly damp cloth. For the bracelet, use a soft-bristle brush to remove dirt between the links. Always dry thoroughly afterward.
- Ceramic Bezel (GMT models): Extremely scratch-resistant. Clean with a soft cloth. Avoid harsh chemical products.
- Storage: Store the watch in its box or a padded case, away from strong magnetic fields (speakers, magnets, powerful electronic devices).
- Periodic Service: A technical service is recommended every 3-5 years, regardless of the movement type.
Automatic Watches — Nautilus and GMT Collection
PANTER Watch automatics (Seiko TMI NH35, NH36, and NH34 movements) are powered by the natural motion of the wrist. They are the most "alive" in the collection and require specific attention.
How to keep them in shape:
- Wear them regularly. An unworn automatic loses power. If you don't wear it daily, manually wind it by rotating the crown clockwise 20-30 times before putting it on.
- Power Reserve: The NH35/NH36 has approximately 41 hours of power reserve. If left unworn for more than two days, it will need to be rewound.
- Winder (Automatic Watch Winder): If you own several automatic watches, a watch winder keeps them powered and on time without manual winding.
- Avoid Magnetic Fields: Mechanical movements are sensitive to magnetism. If the watch starts running unusually fast or slow, it may be magnetized. A watchmaker can easily demagnetize it.
- Do not wind with the watch on: To protect the crown and mechanism, remove the watch from your wrist before manual winding.
- Expected Accuracy: ±10-15 seconds/day is normal for an automatic in this range. If the deviation is greater, it may need regulation.
GMT Watches — Batman, Bruce Wayne, and Green
PANTER Watch GMTs are equipped with the TMI NH34A automatic movement, which adds the dual time zone function. The care is the same as for any automatic, with some additional considerations:
- Second Time Zone Adjustment: The GMT hand is adjusted hour by hour using the crown. Do so gently, without forcing it.
- Rotating Bezel: Rotate it regularly to prevent it from stiffening. If you notice resistance, a watchmaker can lubricate it.
- GMT Reading: Remember that the 24-hour bezel allows you to distinguish AM and PM in the second time zone. Positions 6 and 18 mark midday and midnight respectively.
Meca-Quartz Watches — Daytona Collection
PANTER Watch Daytonas feature the Seiko TMI VK63A movement, a hybrid caliber that combines the precision of quartz with the smooth sweeping seconds hand of a mechanical watch. It is the most distinctive movement in the collection.
Its peculiarities:
- Battery: Unlike automatics, the VK63A runs on a battery. Its estimated lifespan is 3-4 years with normal use.
- Low Battery Signal: When the battery is about to run out, the seconds hand starts moving in two-second increments instead of continuously. This is the signal to replace it.
- Battery Replacement: Take the watch to a trusted watchmaker. Do not attempt to open it yourself — the VK63A movement requires specific tools and a clean environment.
- Chronograph Function: Use the pushers gently. Avoid activating the chronograph underwater or in high-humidity environments.
- Accuracy: ±10 seconds/month — much more accurate than an automatic.
Quartz Watches
If you own a standard quartz PANTER Watch model, maintenance is the simplest of all:
- Battery: Lasts 2-3 years depending on the model. Replace it as soon as you notice the watch running slow or the seconds hand jumping irregularly.
- Accuracy: ±15 seconds/month under normal conditions.
- No Mechanical Maintenance: The quartz movement does not require periodic lubrication like mechanical watches. A service every 5 years is sufficient.
Signs that your watch needs servicing
Regardless of the movement type, take your PANTER Watch to a watchmaker if you observe:
- Unusual lagging or gaining outside normal margins
- Crown that turns with difficulty or does not click correctly
- Condensation under the crystal
- Bezel that does not rotate or rotates too easily
- Seconds hand jumping irregularly (in automatics)
